BARNSTAPLE JUNCTION SIGNAL BOX - in 1985

Signal Boxes are sort of "secret places." They glow at night, they beckon and invite with a protective feel. Upon entry - which is strictly by invitation only, they gleam with decades of polish and love, of sweat and toil, the levers shine with the benefit of countless caresses by the signal man`s firm grip over a linen cloth.
These photographs here have captured perhaps the last two signalmen at Barnstaple Junction, I am sorry that I have forgotten their names, but I well recall the day that I managed to arrange a visit. I never could have foreseen that in 15 years hence they would be on show to the whole world via the www....I mean what does "www" mean in 1985 speak!
