Place: Eau Claire, Wisconsin
- Notes:
-
They were married on January 22, 1944 at the court house in Eau Claire Wisconsin,
Anitas' home town. Her father Henning arranged for his good friend Judge Farr to
perform the ceremony.
At that time Anita was a practing Lutheran and Peter was a practicing Catholic.
They both would have preferred a church wedding but was unable to come to an
acceptable arrangement between themselves or their families. Time was of the
essence so they opted for the civil ceremony.
Anita's parents held a reception for the newlyweds at their home in Eau Claire. The
couple boarded a train later that afternoon heading for Chicago. Anita said that she
and her new husband saw Cab Calloway preform there that night.
A SECOND "RELIGIOUS" MARRIAGE CEREMONY WAS CONDUCTED
THE FOLLOWING MONTH (FEB 1944) ON THE WALTERBORO ARMY
AIR CORP BASE (WALTERBORO SC).WHERE ANITAS' NEW HUSBAND
WAS SERVING AS AN INTELLINGENCE OFFICER.
HE WAS TRANSFERRED TO ENGLAND SHORTLY THEREAFTER AND
SERVED IN THE EUROPEAN THEATER WITH THE 510TH FIGHTER
SQUADRON. . (WWII)
THIS SECOND CEREMONY WAS AT THE INSISTANCE OF MR HARINGS,
THE GROOM'S FATHER.
MR HARINGS, A PRACTICING CATHOLIC, DEMANDED THAT THEY
HAVE THEIR UNION PROPERLY BLESSED.
