About Rube Dickson
Ask anyone in the family and you'll get a different story on the birthdate and age
of Rube Dickson. His first hand infup to the US Census Taker on 6 June 1900,
Jefferson County, says he was born in Tennessee, 30 Jan 1880 and that he
was 20 yrs old. At the time he was boarding with his sister Sallie and her
husband, John Lowery. Rube did a lot of "hoboing" according to his family.
He clearly was a Scotchman, with a big nose, big ears and a drum inside him
that kept hom moving as the old Scottish Clans did. He did settle down long
enough to marry Kate Francher in about 1907 of Shelby County, Alabama.
He was living in the boarding house run by his sister, Sallie, in the Coalmont
Community (near present day Town of Helena) with his wife Katie and two
yearl old daughter, Ruby C., according to the US Census of 1910-Alabama
Shelby County.
