"Ma" Vilardi

"»§«:*´`³¤³´`*:»«:*´`³¤³´`*:»§«:*´`³¤³´`*:»«:*´`³¤³´`*:»§«

This is a true story.

"Ma" Vilardi came to America when she was 13 years old, but her Italian accent was so thick all her life that her children/grandchildren used to say she sounded like she "just stepped off the boat".

At the time this story takes place, Ma was in her late 60's and looked the epitome of the sweet little Italian Grandmother -- small, no makeup, grey hair, old-fashioned dresses worn with "sturdy" black shoes.

Ma had 5 children, and in her later years would take turns living for a few months at a time with each of the 5 families. At this time, she was living with her daughter Anne, whose husband had a very large drinking problem. To facilitate his problem, Harry always bought his booze in large-size bottles.

Ma drank water all day long and had always boiled it first, a habit from the "old country". After her water was boiled, she needed a bottle to put it in, to store it in the frig.

This particular day, the TV repairman was at Anne's house, working on the TV. Ma watched him for a while, then decided she needed a drink of water, so went to the frig and removed her jug of water; she had used one of Harry's empty gin bottles this time. With the repairman watching, she took out the big gin bottle, poured herself a large glassful, and drank the whole thing.

The repairman just stared at her in disbelief! Ma misread the look on his face and said, with her VERY thick Italian accent, "Oh watsa matta with me, you wanna some too?".

The repairman just sat there with a very shocked look on his face and said, "No thank you lady".
